The Port System Authority of the Ionian Sea (AdSPMI) fosters the development of new business models that reconcile maritime tradition with new visions of sustainability aimed at promoting the transition towards a more circular and competitive economy in the port sector, focusing primarily - but not exclusively - on energy and environmental planning. Environmental sustainability has become of primary importance and the Authority has launched a series of actions and partnerships aimed at researching and testing innovative projects and models to improve the environmental and energy performance of port activities, including alternative fuels, in line with European plans.

The AdSPMI has placed the issue of environmental sustainability and its integration into the Authority's strategic planning system as one of the strategic priorities underpinning the Vision to 2030 with a view to considering the value of energy resilience as a tool to be used to convert the Port of Taranto into a smart green port.
