Netherlands Port Development mission to Italy

PORT OF TARANTO, 14 MAY 2024 - A successful incoming and networking mission today in the port of Taranto, where a delegation of Dutch institutions and companies was welcomed, coordinated by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and led by the Honorary Consul for the Region of Apulia - Secretary General of the Consular Corps of Apulia, Basilicata and Molise, Massimo Salomone, who promoted the initiative, which includes visits to four Italian ports. 

In addition to officials from the commercial section of the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Milan, representatives of companies specialising in different sectors were in attendance: from alternative energy to geo-mapping, automated inspections, robotics, and submarine drones; from the protection and preservation of coastlines, human activities, and water quality to engineering studies and research centres in the maritime sector.

During the port tour, the delegates, escorted by the AdSP staff, had the opportunity to take a look at the Ionian port's infrastructural endowments, potential and development projects, and showed particular interest in the projects related to renewable energies and the ecological transition of the Port and the City of Taranto.

Back at headquarters, the delegation was welcomed by President Sergio Prete and Secretary General Roberto Settembrini, who coordinated the round table of companies having the opportunity to meet vis-à-vis some operators in the various sectors revolving around the port of Taranto: from logistics to cargo handling, from green energy to research in the marine sector.

Of particular profit and appreciation was the subsequent networking moment between the Dutch companies and their local business counterparts, a matchmaking opportunity aimed at exchanging experiences on the main projects developed - or planned to be realised in the near future - in the port of Taranto also with a view to triggering new synergies and international collaboration initiatives.
